Oversight of Prisons and Detentions

This section is responsible to review, supervise and monitor prisons and other penal institutions to ensure the proper care and treatment of prisoners and protection of their fundamental human rights in conformity with international and national laws.

Members of this section are mandated to:

• call on and examine the condition of any prison, other penal institution, and prisoners confined therein,
• question any prisoner and
• record any observations in reference to the conditions of the prison, other penal institution, or prisoners.

This section is headed by a prosecutor, and it comprises of experienced prosecutors who possess Oversight, observation, and interviewing skills. Members of this sections are mandated to take immediate actions if required and to generate necessary reports for the AGO to reach a decision.
